The pacific coast and the lowlands of the Choco Region, is one of the most bio-diverse spots in the world, the number of birds possible in it tour  is amazing, many endemics and near-endemics, rare and beautiful birds and so wonderful landscapes  are the component all days. The magic jungle of Utria National Park and Bahia Solano will help you to increase your birding list.

 

Day 1. Arrival to Bogota International Airport

Day 2. Flight to Bahia Solano, birding in El Valle / Almejal Ecolodge (Pacific Coast)

We will take a flight to Medellin in where we will take another flight to Bahia Solano. A car will be waiting for us in the airport in where we will start to see birds on the road to El Almejal Ecolodge.

Some interesting birds during the day include Baudo Guan, Baudo Oropendola, Pied Puffbird, Dusky Pigeon, Scarlet and White Tanager, Grey-headed Chachalaca, King Vulture, Rose faced Parrot and many more. Atnight we will come back to El Almejal eco-lodge to rest.

Day 3. Birding in El Valle Road to Bahia Solano (Pacific Coast)

We will be all day birding on the road to Bahia Solano from El Valle; very easy to walk and fantastic to see many good birds that include White-necked Jacobin, Bronzy Hermit, Band-tailed Barbthroat, Long-billed Hermit , White-tailed Trogon, Amazon Kingfisher, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Spot-crowned Barbet, Great Pooto, Collared Aracari, Choco Toucan, Black-cheeked Woodpecker, Cinnamon Woodcreeper, Slaty Spinteail, Northern Barred-Woodcreeper, Choco Tyrannulet, Ruddy-tailed Flycatcher, Long-tailed Tyrant, Cinnamon Becard an many more. We will comeback at night to El Almejal Eco-lodge.

Day 4. Birding in El Valle Path to Utria National Park (Pacific Coast)

We will be so focused this day in the special birds of Pacific Coast on the El Valle – Utria Path. The birds that are possible this day include: Black-tipped Cotinga, Choco Tinamou, Stub-tailed Antbird, Long-billed Gnatwren, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Choco Syristes, usky-faced Tanager, Scarlet-browed Tanager, Rufous-winged Tanager, Golden-hooded Tanager, Scarlet-thighed Dacnis, Black-breasted Puffbird, Red-legged Honeycreeper, Variable Seedeater, Thick-billed Seed-Finch, Orange-billed Sparrow, Blue-black Grosbeak, Scarlet-rumped (Subtropical) Cacique, White-vented Euphonia, Purple-throated Cotinga, Streak-chested Antpitta, Black-headed Antthrush, Spotted Antbird, Chestnut-backed Antbird, Dot-winged Antwren, Pacific Antwren, Ocellated Antbird and many more. We will come back to El Almejal Eco-lodge to rest.

Day 5. Transfer on boat to Utria National Park Cocalito Path (Pacific Coast)

We will transfer early in the morning in a boat to Utria National Park (Mano Cambiada Project) in Ensenada de Utria locations; one of the most wonderful location in the Colombia pacific coast! We wll go to sercah birds in Cocalito trail crossing the Ensenada to search some very very nice birds that include the enigmatic Broad-billed Sapayoa; other interesting birds in the pacific coast include Crested Guan, Great Curassow, Brown and Masked Booby, Brown Wood-Rail, Rufous-necked Wood-Rail, Uniform Crake, Grey-breasted Crake, Sungrebe, a lot of Shorebird, Scaled Pigeon, Olive-backed Quail-Dove, Rose-faced Parrot, Grey-capped Cuckoo, Short-tailed Night-Hawk, Choco Poorwill, Striped-throated Hermit, Blue Cotinga, Rufous Piha, Green Manakin, Red-capped Manakin, Blue-crowned Manakin, Lesser Greenlet, Pale-vented Thrush and many more. We will rest in the cabins on the beach to Utria National Park.

Day 6. Utria National Park, transfer to Nuqui, El Cantil Lodge (Pacific Coast)

We will search more birds in Utria National Park, but focusing in the mangroves ecosystems and coast, in where we can watch many shorebirds, crakes, egrets and herons; in the afternoon we will take a boat to Nuqui village, in where we will transfer to El Cantil Eco-lodge at south of our position.

Day 7. El Cantil Natural Reserve (Pacific Coast)

We will watch more birds inside the El Cantil Natural Reserve, exactly behind of the lodge; some birds that we will search include Great Jacamar, Sooty capped Puffbird, Five-coloured Barbet, Yellow-ear Toucanet, Spot-crowned Antvireo, Ocellated Antbird, Slaty-tailed Trogon, Zeledon´s Antbird, Thicket Antpitta, White-ruffed Manakin, Scaly-breasted Wren, Half-collared Gnatwren, Tawny-faced Quail and many more. We will spend all day inside the reserve but the food will be always in the lodge.

Day 8. El Cantil Natural Reserve, transfer to Nuqui and Bogota (Pacific Coast)

We will search more birds around El Cantil Ecolodge, and before of the half day we will take a flight o Bogota from Nuqui village; we will enjoy the amazing landscapes from El Cantil to Nuqui and some pelagic and shorebirds on the rocks or close to the beach. In Bogota, we will take a nice dinner to celebrate this fantastic birding tour.
