It is an easy tour through the mountains of Wenster Andes where we will explore the Oak, Dry, Páramo, and Cloud Forest around Bogota and Soatá village. A great tour in which we will focus on some very rare endemic and fantastic birds from unique ecosystems; you will  have the experience of staying over a village in the countryside of Colombia while enjoying the bio-diversity and typical dishes.

 

Day 1. Arrival to Bogota International Airport

Day 2. Chingaza National Park (Eastern Andes)

We will visit the Chingaza National Park early in the morning all day, we will take the breakfast and the lunch in the field and we are focus in a many important birds this day as to Brown-breasted Parakeet, Silvery-throated Spinetail, Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Matorral Tapaculo, Golden-fronted Whitestart, Coopery-bellied Puffleg, Rufous-browed Conebill, Purple-backed Thronbill, Paramo Seedeater, Plush-capped Finch, Pale-naped Brush-Finch, Smoky Bush-Tyrant, Black-billed Mountain Toucan, Black-headed Hemispingus and many more. In the afternoon we will come back to Bogota.

Day 3. Sumapaz National Park, transfer Tunja (North-Eastern Andes)

This day we will search birds in the amazing and so beautiful Sumapaz National Park or Paramo de Sumapaz, in where the landscape and the diversity of birds, and plants, will be the attraction, in the afternoon we will transfer to the colonial city of Tunja to rest in a nice hotel in the downtown.

You will can see some very interesting birds as Green-bearded Helmetcrest, Bogota Rail, Apolinar´s Marsh Wren, Bronze-tailed Thronbill, Red-rumped Bush-Tyrant, Red-crested Cotinga, Black-chested Buzzard Eagle, Many-striped Canastero, Chestnut-winged Cinclodes, Plain-capped Ground-Tyrant, Tawny Antpitta, Andean Ruddy Duck, and many more.

Day 4. Rogitama Reserve, transfer Soata (North-Eastern Andes)

(2700 m / 8860 Ft - 10-17 °C / 50 – 62.6 °F)

We will visit the gardens of Roberto Chavaro in Rogitama Reserve, a clear example of conservation in this area of Colombia in where we will search some important species of hummingbirds; in the afternoon we will transfer to Soata village at north-east a nice community close to the dry forest of Chicamocha Canon; we will see birds also in Paramo de Susacon on the road to Soata.

Some interesting birds this day include: Black Inca, Short-tailed Emerald, Moustached Brush-Finch, Lazuline Sabrewing, Yellow-breasted Brush-Finch, Azare´s Spinetail, Noble Snipe, Grassland Yellow-Finch, Sedge Wren, Black-tailed Trainbearer and many more.

Day 5. Soata Oak Forest (North-Eastern Andes)

(1800 – 3000 m / 5900 - 9840 Ft - 10-15 °C / 50 – 59 °F)

All the morning we will explore the beautiful Oak Forest of Soata in where we will search some very important species; in the afternoon we will come back to the same forest searching more new birds.

Some interest birds this day include: Mountain Grackle, Golden-bellied Starfrontlet, Black-capped Tyrannulet, Red-hooded Tanager, Mountain Woodcreeper, Bicoloured Hawk, Blue-black Tanager, Bluish Flowerpiercer, Pale-adge Flycatcher, Brown-capped Vireo, Scale-crested Pygmy Tyrant, Smoky-browned Woodpecker, Tyrian Metaltail and many more.

Day 6. Soata Dry Forest (Chicamocha Canon) - (North-Eastern Andes)

(700 – 1200 m / 2300 - 3940 Ft - 18-25 °C / 64.4 – 77 °F)

We will search more birds in the dry forest of Chicamocha Canon, a very nice place with an amazing landscape of pale mountains and spiny vegetation. In the afternoon we will transfer to Bogota city again to rest.

Some interesting birds this day include: Niceforo´s Wren, Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird, Apical Flycatcher, Bicoloured Wren, White-tailed Kite, Golden-crowned Warbler, Buff-breasted Wood-Wren, Pearly vented Cuckoo, Bare-faced Ibis, Streak-headed Woodcreeper, Pale-eyed Pygmy-Tyrant, Pale-breasted Spinetail, Crimson-backed Tanager, Yellow-bellied Seedeater, Yellow-throated Vireo and many more.

Day 7. Monterrerondo (Eastern Andes)

We will search birds in Monterredondo location in the cloud forest of eastern Andes. A trip of 3 hours from Bogota to find some of the most important birds on the ridge. In the afternoon we will come back to Bogota to rest in same hotel.

Some birds of interest this day include: Cundinamarca Antpitta, East Andean Antbird, Andean Pygmy-Owl, Golden-crowned Tanager, Andean Guan, Green and Black Fruiteater, Glittering-throated Emerald, Green-bellied Hummingbird, Crimson-mantlet Woodpecker, Blackish Tapaculo, Black collared Jay, Buff-breasted Mountain-Tanager and many more.
